Dal Tomato Curry

                                          

In this article, I’ll share how to prepare Dal tomato curry. 

tomato pappu recipe | tamata pappu dal | pappu tomato curry - It is an easy and flavourful dal recipe made with tomatoes and chanadal/toordal. Basically, the recipe originates from the andhra cuisine and is mainly served with hot and steamed rice with pickle or stir-fried vegetables. the recipe is very simple and is made similar to any other dal recipe, but has a strong punch of tomatoes in it.

pappu recipes are the staple food of andhra cuisine and can be made with different flavours. It goes very well with jeera rice or plain rice. but then there are variations to it and tomato pappu recipe is one such simple variation made by adding tomatoes to pappu.

Ingredients Required
  • Toor dal -1/4th cup
  • Tomato – 1
  • Onion – 1
  • Green chillies – 1
  • Salt – 2tsp or based on your taste
  • Red chilli powder – 1tbsp
  • Tamarind – small lemon size
For Tampering
  • Oil – 2tsp
  • Red chillies, Mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, garlic cloves 3 crushed, curry leaves
Preparation
  1. Add 1/4th cup toor dal into a cooker, add 1/2 cup water and let soak for 20mins
  2. Meanwhile soak tamarind fro 20mins
  3. 20mins later add chopped tomatoes, onion, green chillies into cooker along with toor dal and cook for 5 whistles in high heat and 5mins in low heat
  4. After pressure released open cooker and add it on the stove
  5. Add salt, red chilli powder, tamarind juice extracted from soaked tamarind and mix all together and cook for 5mins
For Tampering
  1. Add oil to heated pan
  2. Add Red chillies, Mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, curry leaves,garlic cloves 3 crushed
  3. Finally add to the curry and mix
  4. Dal tomato curry is ready to serve
  5. Can be served with rice, puri, chapathis, rotis
