In this article, I’ll share how to prepare grated carrot fry. South India is known for its dry curries and gravy curries. While every South Indian state has its version of dry curries.
It’s easy to grate carrots than to chop them. The cooking time is comparatively less with grated carrots. You don’t need to steam them separately. With the open pot method, it gets cooked quickly.
If you don’t want to use grated carrots, peel them and cut them into halves. Steam them in a pressure cooker/Instant Pot/Microwave, and then chop them. It’s easy to chop steamed carrots than the raw ones.
Ingredients Required
- Oil- 1tbsp
- Red chillies, chanadal, uraddal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds -2tsp
- Curry leaves
- Carrots- 1/2kg grated
- Salt-2tsp
- Red chilli powder used for fries – 2tsp
Preparation
- Peel off the layer for carrots and grate them
- Add oil to heated pan
- Add Red chillies, chanadal, uraddal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds
- Add curry leaves
- Now add grated carrot, salt and fry till colour changes, mostly it takes 8 to 10mins in medium heat
- Add red chilli powder used for fries and mix
- Finally garnish with coriander leaves
