In this article, I’ll share how to prepare ravva gunta ponganalu.
Instant Rava Ponganalu is a quick version of breakfast made with Rava and steamed in a unique vessel shaped like a pan with multiple small fissures also known as gunta ponganalu Pan
It is a popular south Indian snack, shallow fried dumpling or roundels prepared with rice and urad dal or with the batter of addition of mixed lentils like chana dal, urad dal and flattened rice.
While typically rice ponganalu requires fermentation and hence a bit of thinking ahead, but this Rava Appam is for those who aren’t good at planning and hence dishes like Rava appam comes as a saving grace. It takes less than 30 mins to make and while these are getting steamed, you may make some delicious chutney to serve along.

Ingredients Required
- Bombay Ravva (sooji) – 1cup
- Onion – 1 chopped
- Green chillies – 3 or 4 chopped
- Carrot – 1/2 grated
- Salt – 2tsp
- Cooking soda – a pinch
- Curd – 3tbsp
- Oil – Required
Preparation
- Add 1 cup sooji into a mixing bowl
- Add chopped onion, grated carrot, chopped green chillies, cooking soda, curd and mix
- Add required water and mix and let rest for 10mins
- 10mins later add more water and get to idly batter consistency
- Now prepare ponganalu in ponganalu pan and fry both sides
- Instant breakfast is ready to serve with ginger chutney
