Buttermilk is a popular drink in India, for its amazing health benefits. Buttermilk (chaas in Hindi) is a popular summer drink in North India. Besides being delicious and lightweight, there are a lot of benefits of drinking buttermilk.
The name buttermilk can be misleading, as it does not contain any butter. The traditional buttermilk is made from the liquid leftover of the whole milk that’s churned into butter.
It is a common healthy beverage popular in different North Indian regions. Due to the presence of lactic acid, the acidity of buttermilk is high and helps in preventing unwanted bacterial growth, which is one of the major health benefits of buttermilk.

Ingredients
- Green Chilli - 1
- Ginger - small piece
- Salt - 1tsp
- Pepper - 3 or 4
- Cumin seeds - 1tsp
- Coriander leaves
- Curd - 4 tbsp curd
- Water - 1/2 litre
- Coriander powder - 1/4th tsp
Preparation
- Add green chilli, ginger, salt, pepper, cumin seeds, coriander leaves into a mixi jar or into small mortar and grind to coarse paste
- Add curd into a bowl, add grinded paste and mix
- Add 1/2 litre water and churn buttermilk
- Finally garnish with coriander powder and coriander leaves
- Masala ButterMilk is ready to serve.
