Raw Papaya Pickle

                                           

In this article, I’ll share how to prepare raw papaya pickle. 

Raw papaya / Green Papaya / unripe papaya is a healthy miracle fruit that is rich in vitamins, enzymes and phytonutrients.

Ingredients Required
  • Raw papaya – 1(1kg- 8cups)
  • Tamarind – 250gms
  • Oil – 400ml(groundnut oil)
  • Fenugreek seeds – 4tbsp
  • Garlic – 3
  • Salt – 2cups
  • Raw Red chilli powder – 2cups
  • Turmeric – 1/2tsp
  • Chanadal- 2tbsp
  • Uraddal – 2bsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1tbsp
  • Curry leaves
Preparation
  1. Peel off the layer for raw papaya and chop them into small pieces
  2. Add 1cup salt, turmeric, 1tbsp oil and mix all together
  3. Close lid and let rest for 30 to 45mins
  4. 45mins later water releases, squeeze extra water and keep pieces aside into a bowl
  5. Add tamarind into those water and add more water if required and let tamarind soak for 20mins
  6. Meanwhile fry fenugreek seeds till colour changes and cool for sometime
  7. Add fenugreek seeds, garlic cloves to a mixi jar and grind to paste and keep aside
  8. 20mins later cook tamarind for 5mins and let it cool for sometime
  9. Then add it to mixi jar and grind to fine paste
  10. Now add grounded fenugreek, garlic paste, 1cup salt, 2cups raw red chilli powder and grind to fine paste
  11. Now add it to papaya pieces and mix
  12. For tampering add 400ml oil to heated pan
  13. Add, chanadal, uraddal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and fry
  14. Let it cool for sometime and then add it to chutney and mix
  15. Raw papaya pickle is ready and can be stored for 6 months in refrigerator
