In this article, I’ll share how to prepare tri colour idly. I made this as Republic Day special on January26th.
Idly is a popular south indian breakfast recipe made with ground urad dal and idli rava batter. Generally, the idli batter is fermented overnight and steam cooked till it holds the shape and served for breakfast. idli’s are typically served with the combination of Chutney Recipes and Sambar.
Just with normal idly batter we can make 3 colour idlies.This is healthy way of eating idlies. For green colour I used sorell leaves(chukka koora) in telugu. And for orange i used carrot paste.

Ingredients Required
- Idly Batter
- Carrot – 1
- Any Leafy Vegetables – 1/4 bunch
- Salt – 2tsp
Preparation
- For green colour add handful of leafy vegetables of your choice into a mixi jar and grind to paste
- For orange add carrot pieces and grind to paste and keep aside
- Add separately all 3 batters orange, white and green into 3 different bowls
- Add into idly plates and place them in idly cooker low heat or normal pressure cooker high heat for 20min
- 20min later ldly is ready to serve.
