In this article, I’ll share how to prepare Vaamu Jaava.
We give a lot of importance to spices in our Indian cuisine. Each Spice has medicinal and beneficial values. In our Indian cuisine, Ajwain/Vaamu/carrom seeds are prized for their ability to improve digestion, relieve constipation and treat flatulence. Even infants are given Ajwain induced water to help with colic issues. Today I am sharing the recipe for Ajwain malt.
It is a very old traditinal recipe in India. If we take that jaava in rainy season it is very good for health.
Not only in rainy season, it works great for our body on seasonal changes in whether. With ajwain we can prepare rice as well named Ajwain Rice.

Ingredients Required
- Normal Rice - 1 cup
- Oil- 2tbsp
- Ajwain - 2tbsp
- Ginger - small piece
- Red Chillies - 1
- Onion - 1 chopped
- Green chillies - 2 chopped
- Salt- 2tsp
- Red chilli powder - 1/2tsp
- Turmeric - 1/2tsp
- Tamarind - small lemon size
- Curry leaves
Preparation
- Soak small lemon size tamarind for 20mins. You can add lemon in place of tamarind.
- Add 1 cup normal rice of your choice into a mixi jar and grind to coarse powder.
- Now add a large pan on the stove.
- Add oil into heated pan.
- Add ajwain,chopped or crushed ginger, red chillies, chopped green chillies,curry leaves and fry for a minute.
- Add chopped onion and fry till onion changes colour.
- Now add grounded rice and mix for a minute.
- Add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric and mix.
- Now add tamarind juice extracted from soaked tamarind and mix.
- Now add 6 cups water with the same cup we added rice and let it cook for 10mins
- Check the grains whether it is cooked properly.
- Finally turn off the stove and serve hot.
