Cast Iron Appam Pan

These ponganalu can be prepared with idly batter/dosa batter. If you have idly batter/dosa batter ready then these can be prepared in minutes. Along with this batter we can add chopped onions, green chillies, grated carrot etc. By adding these extra taste will be added.

You can have them without any chutney, as we'll add green chillies. Or you can serve them with any red pickle which is readily available. Generally we serve it with Allam Chutney.

It is most famous breakfast/snack in south indian homes. I added only veggies here, optionally you can add tampering with mustard seeds, cumin seeds and onion also fried. Taste is based on the ingredients we add extra.

Now lets quickly checkout the ingredients and preparation.

Ingredients Required
  • Idly Batter
  • Onions - 2 chopped
  • Green Chillies - 4 finely chopped
  • Carrot - 1 or 2 grated
  • Coriander leaves
All the ingredients can be taken according to the quantity of idly batter you have taken.

Preparation

1.  Add chopped onion, chopped green chillies, grated carrot, coriander leaves into idly batter. And add little salt too. Actually we generally add salt in idly batter. But as we added all these onions and all we need to add extra salt.

2. Mix all together.

3. Turn on the stove with appam pan on it. And add oil into each one. This recipe needs more oil, then only it tastes great. If you are too health conscious then you can reduce oil.

4. Add appam with a small ladle.

5. Use spoon or fork to turn the other side and fry them on both sides.

6. Idly batter appam/idly batter ponganalu is ready to serve.
