Hariyali Chicken - Hariyali literally translates to green. So it is also known as green chicken.The most famous recipe of punjab. Once if you try chicken cooking this way, you will love a lot. This chicken recipe is made by blending coriander leaves, mint leaves, green chillies to add colour and taste.
In addition you can add spinach leaves as well. But here i'm adding only coriander and mint leaves.
Chicken can be cooked in many ways. For every house there is different way of making and taste is based on the ingredients we add into it.
For making this hariyali chicken recipe I'm using all Homemade Powders like homemade red chilli powder, homemade coriander powder, homemade jeera powder, homemade garam masala.
Proper way of cleaning chicken
Clean chicken with normal water once. Then add rock salt, turmeric and clean twice. This helps in relieving foul smell. You can add lemon juice too for cleaning chicken.

Ingredients Required
- Chicken - 1/2kg
- Onion - 2 chopped
- Green chillies - 4 to 5
- Coriander leaves- handful
- Mint leaves - handful
- Cloves - 2
- Cinnamon - 2
- Ginger garlic paste - 2tbsp
- Curd - 3tbsp
- Oil - 4tbsp
- Salt - 3tsp
- Red chilli powder - 2tsp
- Turmeric - 1/2tsp
- Coriander powder - 1tsp
- Jeera powder - 1/2tsp
- Garam masala - 1tsp
Coriander Mint Paste Preparation
1. Add coriander leaves, mint leaves, green chillies and grind into fine paste by adding water.
Whisked curd is also used in this recipe. It tastes great by adding curd. If you don't like you can skip it. Whisk 3tbsp curd and keep it aside.
Hariyali Chicken Preparation
1. Add oil into heated pan. Let it get heated completely and add cloves, cinnamon, cumin seeds and let them fry.
2. Add chopped onion and curry leaves and fry till onion is transparent.
3. Add ginger garlic paste and fry for 2 to 3mins.
4. Add chopped tomatoes and mix all together.
5. Add salt, turmeric and mix all together. By adding salt it releases water and tomatoes will be cooked perfectly.
6. Close lid and cook for 4 to 5mins in low heat. Saute in-between so that it wont stick to pan.
7. Tomatoes will be cooked perfectly. Then add red chilli powder, coriander powder, jeera powder.
8. Mix all together and let fry for 2 to 3mins. Powder fried in oil tastes great.
9. Now add cleaned chicken and mix all together.
10. Close lid and cook for 5mins in low heat. Saute in-between frequently.
11. Open lid and add whisked curd and mix all together.
12. Now add coriander mint paste. Chicken cooks with curd and coriander mint paste and absorbs the flavours and tastes great.
13. Close lid and cook for 10mins in low heat.
14. Now add garam masala and mix all together and cook for 2 to 3mins in low heat.
15. Check whether chicken is cooked perfectly.
16. Now add finely chopped coriander leaves and mix all together.
